About Us

What's in a mission?

Odyssey's mission and vision statements guide the actions of the organization, spelling out our overall goal and providing a sense of direction to guide our decision-making, every day. Founded in 1992, we also have a history. And generous foundation supporters!

Mission

Odyssey Youth Center works with at-risk lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth (LGBTQ) and their allies to provide a safe place, education, and advocacy. We promote positive growth and self-empowerment for our youth.

Vision

We envision a future where LGBTQ youth face no discrimination as they grow into confident, successful, productive and contributing members of our community.

History

Founded as a program of the Spokane Regional Health District in 1992, Odyssey has been an independent nonprofit organization since 2001. We have grown and continue to thrive thanks to the efforts of our staff and volunteers, particularly our adult facilitators and a most-dedicated governing Board of Directors.

Supporters

Odyssey Youth Center is sustained through private grants, volunteer support and community donations. In particular, we are grateful for the support of the Ms. Foundation, an early funder that helped us develop programs for youth ages 14-21 on reproductive rights, sexual health, and social justice. Recent major supporters include:

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
Gamma Mu Foundation
Marguerite Casey Foundation
Ms. Foundation for Women
The Pride Foundation
