Executive Director

Odyssey Youth Center seeks a dynamic and experienced leader for our growing LGBTQ youth center. Odyssey Youth Center works with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth and their allies to provide a safe place, education and advocacy to promote growth and self-empowerment. Our center is located in Spokane and is the largest LGBTQ youth center in Eastern Washington, serving the Inland Northwest. Application closing date: March 15, 2010.

Job Description:

§         Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and has overall responsibility for fundraising, grant writing, marketing, planning, budgeting, staff supervision and managing the day to day operations of the center.

§         Work with the Board of Directors and staff to develop work plans to meet strategic planning goals.

§         Write grant proposals and cultivate relationships with grantors; manage ongoing contract requirements and reporting.

§         Cultivate local donor base and work with the Board of Directors and the Fund Development Committee to increase the local support base through direct ask, direct mail and fundraising events.

§         Supervise staff and oversee center operations.

§         Oversee and manage the development of the youth program development and delivery.

§         Oversee the management of volunteers.

§         Maintain financial records, write checks, generate budgets and reports and ensure proper fiscal management of the organization.

§         Represent the organization and LGBTQ youth issues to the public, media, parents and community groups; represent the organization in local and regional committees and planning groups.

§         Maintain and update the Center’s website.Oversee production and distribution of quarterly newsletter.


Required Qualifications

§         Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field including Social Work, Psychology, Business Administration, Human Resources, Non-Profit Leadership, etc. Work experience may substitute for education.

§         Demonstrated writing, public speaking, public relations, advocacy and interpersonal skills.

§         Promote the organization and LGBTQ youth issues to the public and the media.

§         Proficiency with personal computers, software and the internet.

§         Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

§         Experience in grant writing, fundraising and nonprofit management.

§         Experience working with financial management and budgeting.

§         Experience working with local, state and federal grants and planning groups.

§          Experience working with youth and with the LGBTQ community.

§         Demonstrated past excellence and experience supervising, leading and promoting teamwork
excellence amongst staff. Proven aptitude to identify and liaise with community resources, preferably within Spokane, and proven ability to foster cooperative community networks.

Preferred Qualifications:

§         Master’s degree.

§         Knowledge of LGBTQ youth issues.
