Volunteer Packet
Dear Prospective Volunteer: Thank you for your interest in Odyssey Youth Center. Odyssey could not have its doors open without the committed time and energy of our amazing volunteers and facilitators! We have put together this packet of information to give you an idea of the powerful work Odyssey has been doing with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning youth and their allies in our community. If, after reading the posted information, you should decide to join our team of dedicated volunteers you will find the steps to becoming an OYC volunteer outlined below. - All prospective volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application form and an Authorization for Background Check form.
- We will review all applications and submit the background check information to the Washington State Patrol (WSP) as well as the Washington State Sex Offender Information Center run by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.
- You will be contacted after review of the application & background check to schedule an informal interview with one (or more) of Odyssey’s staff members.
- The interview process is designed to assess the fit between the mission of the organization and the interests and skills of the volunteer.
- Assuming the application process and informal interview goes well; you will be offered a volunteer opportunity commensurate with what was discussed during the interview.
- The next step then will be an orientation to Odyssey and the duties of your position.
- Volunteer Facilitators can expect to attend one or two shadow shifts before being assigned a shift of their own.
Thank you again for considering Odyssey Youth Center as the organization with which you desire to spend your valuable volunteer time. I look forward to meeting you in person in the near future, so that we can discuss a possible volunteer role for you at Odyssey Youth Center. If you have any questions, or require additional information, please feel free to call me. Sincerely, Sandra Williams Executive Director Odyssey Youth Center Sandy@odysseyyouth.org (509) 325-3637
